Theme Park History
Opened in May 2017, Universal’s Volcano Bay is a tropical-themed water park located at Universal Orlando Resort, designed to transport guests to the mythical island home of the Waturi people. Replacing the former Wet 'n Wild water park, Volcano Bay was Universal’s answer to creating a fully immersive, story-driven aquatic experience. At the heart of the park stands Krakatau, a 200-foot-tall volcano that not only serves as a dramatic visual centerpiece but also houses the thrilling Ko’okiri Body Plunge slide. The park introduced innovative technology with its TapuTapu wearable, allowing guests to virtually wait in line, unlock interactive experiences, and streamline their day. Volcano Bay quickly became a favorite for its blend of thrills, relaxation, and cutting-edge convenience.
