Theme Park History
Opened in 1989, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park at Walt Disney World Resort is a tropical paradise shaped by a fantastical storm. According to Disney legend, a massive typhoon swept through a pristine island, leaving behind shipwrecks, surfboards, and debris scattered among palm trees and lagoons. At the heart of the park is Miss Tilly, a shrimp boat perched atop Mount Mayday, which erupts in a dramatic waterspout every 30 minutes. Typhoon Lagoon is known for its massive wave pool—the largest in North America—as well as attractions like Crush 'n' Gusher water coasters and the serene Castaway Creek. With its laid-back beach vibe, lush landscaping, and immersive storytelling, Typhoon Lagoon offers the perfect mix of thrills and relaxation in a sun-soaked, storm-tossed setting.
